Practical info

Things to know before your trip

Money & mobile network

  • Carry cash: UPI often fails on the sand at Murud and Ladghar, and some boat operators accept cash only. Withdraw in Dapoli town before heading to the beaches.

  • Patchy signal: Network drops on beaches, ghat roads and remote villages like Kelshi. Download offline Google Maps of the area before you leave.

  • Fuel up on the highway: Tamhini Ghat and the Mandangad road have very few pumps — fill up on NH 66.

Beach & water safety

  • Swim at low tide only: Flat beaches like Karde and Murud are safe at low tide. Stay out at high tide and in monsoon waves, and avoid swimming at busy Harnai port.

  • Life jackets always: Never board a boat or ride without a fastened life jacket — operators must provide one.

  • Monsoon closures: All watersports and boat rides are banned June to September.

  • No vehicles on the sand: Driving cars or bikes on beaches is banned to protect the coast.

Respect the coast & culture

  • Temples: Dress modestly and don't photograph inside the inner sanctum (garbhagriha).

  • Turtles: At hatchling releases, keep your distance, follow volunteers' instructions and never use flash.

  • Dolphins: Swimming with or chasing dolphins is not allowed — they are wild animals.

  • Leave no trace: Carry your plastic back. Many beaches have no bins or shops.

Getting around Dapoli

  • Own vehicle is easiest: Beaches and temples are spread over 50 km of coast, so a car or bike gives the most freedom.

  • Public transport: MSRTC buses and autos run from Dapoli bus stand; Khed station is 40 km away.

  • EV drivers: Fast chargers at Sakhaloli and Chandranagar; some resorts offer destination charging. Read the guide →

Travel FAQs

Practical questions

Is Dapoli worth visiting in the monsoon?

Yes, for green hills, waterfalls and misty ghat drives — but all watersports and boat rides are closed from June to September and swimming is unsafe. Drive carefully on the ghats.

Is UPI accepted in Dapoli?

In town, mostly yes. On the beaches, mobile signal is weak and payments often fail, so carry cash for boat rides, watersports and small eateries.

What are the emergency numbers in Dapoli?

Dial 112 for any emergency (police, fire, ambulance) anywhere in India, or 108 for an ambulance in Maharashtra.
